Kindness Conditional

Wanting what they wanted,
not who she was,
whispering what they whispered
between the lines.
Seeing the outside,
not the inside,
making her pay
was the cost to her soul
for their kindness conditional.

Experiencing loneliness
and rejection,
experiencing the disapproval
their eyes shouted.
What went unsaid
cut through her heart,
cruel insinuations
for when there wasn't the courage
to freaking say it.

About Christina Anne Hawthorne

Alive and well in the Rocky Mountains. I'm a fantasy writer who also dabbles in poetry, short stories, and map making. My Ontyre tales are an alternative fantasy experience, the stories rich in mystery, adventure, and romance. Alternative fantasy? Not quite steampunk. Not quite gothic. In truth, the real magic is in those who discover what's within.
