Christina Anne Hawthorne
Christina Anne Hawthorne
Alive and well in the Rocky Mountains. I'm a fantasy writer who also dabbles in poetry, short stories, and map making. My Ontyre tales are an alternative fantasy experience, the stories rich in mystery, adventure, and romance. Alternative fantasy? Not quite steampunk. Not quite gothic. In truth, the real magic is in those who discover what's within.

One Time
One time, this time, for herself, she’d let her heart lead her mind, she’d know joy, she’d know love, she’d discover all there was to find. She’d touch, she’d be touched, she’d reach for all life had so long denied, … Continue reading

Exiting the Wheel
A moment to cherish, time awareness when it’s needed most, the present moment as welcome as what came before. In this future advancing beyond, a step towards falling behind, wondering in our panic why can’t we move a little faster? … Continue reading

Stones in the Stream
They each meant so much to her, pieces of her heart, stones in the stream that was her life. There came the moment downstream, in the future where she waited, when they didn’t arrive. Upon the rock centered in the … Continue reading

The Ice Between
A rose, its beauty might thaw her heart, but it was frozen too, trapped beneath the ice, trash another heart had discarded. Crouching, she set her bare hand to the ice, the rose so close. Could it feel the warmth … Continue reading

Kindness Conditional
Wanting what they wanted, not who she was, whispering what they whispered between the lines. Seeing the outside, not the inside, making her pay was the cost to her soul for their kindness conditional. Experiencing loneliness and rejection, experiencing the … Continue reading

Wrong Question
“What’s happened to you?” he asked, without looking her way, while avoiding the gray. If he knew what she knew about herself he wouldn’t have to ask for the first time. If he’d taken a moment to know the person … Continue reading

Buy
Buy, buy, buy, and buy some more, buy a bigger house, fill the floors. Keep it new, keep you poor, keep it disposable and easily stored. Build lots of sheds to block the view, work more hours to pay for … Continue reading

So Much More
Deep within, she held love close, and devotion, coupling them with tenderness, and kindness, and passion. They were there for the taking because she was willing to give, her hand outstretched, palm raised, awaiting another. Surely she was someone, seen … Continue reading

Promising Fire
The corridor’s end, discordant music in her soul, tortured screams whispering, drawing her near. She was herself, someone she didn’t believe, behind the door conflict waited, promising her fire. Paper dreams afire, fireflies dying on the balcony, one in her … Continue reading

Proactive
It was the vow, the one she’d made to quiet her worry because everything could be worse in her head. The best path to take was the straight one, requiring proactive steps, no matter how small, because small steps also … Continue reading
