Wrong Question

"What's happened to you?"
he asked,
without looking her way,
while avoiding the gray.
If he knew what she knew about herself
he wouldn't have to ask
for the first time.

If he'd taken a moment
to know the person he'd married,
he'd see her present
and not her past.
The question he was asking,
the one he avoided about himself,
was the first and last.

About Christina Anne Hawthorne

Alive and well in the Rocky Mountains. I'm a fantasy writer who also dabbles in poetry, short stories, and map making. My Ontyre tales are an alternative fantasy experience, the stories rich in mystery, adventure, and romance. Alternative fantasy? Not quite steampunk. Not quite gothic. In truth, the real magic is in those who discover what's within.
