Christina Anne Hawthorne
Christina Anne Hawthorne
Alive and well in the Rocky Mountains. I'm a fantasy writer who also dabbles in poetry, short stories, and map making. My Ontyre tales are an alternative fantasy experience, the stories rich in mystery, adventure, and romance. Alternative fantasy? Not quite steampunk. Not quite gothic. In truth, the real magic is in those who discover what's within.

Focus on the Now
Cross-legged on the floor, she clung to composure, a chaotic wind wanting to tear her world apart, carry her away. “Focus on the present, focus on the now.” The words burst forth, words once learned, words surfacing when she needed … Continue reading

Anxiety Management Through a Cancer Scare
For someone who suffers from anxiety and can’t take medications for it, this last week was a long week, an extraordinary test of the coping strategies I’ve been employing since 2020. My cancer scare was thankfully no more than that, … Continue reading
Don’t be Held Hostage, Be Aware
Actually, the full line is, “Don’t be held hostage by your past.” At the moment, I’m struggling, but I also know I’ll prevail because I’m aware and have a plan. That knowledge is my advantage over what spring causes. Yes, … Continue reading
Awareness
Gentled soul, strengthened heart, a natural elixir quieting the trauma that came before, awareness coming to life, each tendon, each muscle, each joint flexed… awareness bringing balance. Quiet practice gifting to the self, each time giving back, treasured asanas for … Continue reading

Ghost of Creation
It’d tried to take her in those long ago days, tried to end her life. She’d kept breathing, endured. Was she alive? She wondered sometimes, heard tales of the dying while she lived, thrived alone, created. There was damage, but … Continue reading

Patience
Her pesky brain, it was playing its tricks, cluttering her mind with thoughts. An inner breeze swept them away, but as was the way, more came. She’d not cling, not shove aside, but instead let them fade… In the stillness … Continue reading

In This Place
In this place, you are. Let all you can’t control flow through. Let go so as to control what you can. Let worry slip away. It does not serve you. It does not serve YOU. You are. You have endured. … Continue reading

I Dream of Fulfillment
It’s a pretty simple statement. I dream of fulfillment. Maybe it’s not on everyone’s mind when they get up in the morning, but it’s on mine. Every—single—morning. That fulfillment is derived from story, of course. Be it drafting, revising, or … Continue reading
Charting a Better Course
It’s June, summer nears, and I passed a significant anniversary date on May 31st that was the beginning of something big. Yoga. A lot of people take up yoga to some extent or another, but my story also explores the … Continue reading

Quieting Anxiety
Her lungs were a bellows with no air. Pacing, hands darting, thoughts racing, catastrophes forming. Unable to settle, yet wanting to hide. Instead, she sought, her quiet place. Stillness. Breathing. In. Out. If chaos screamed, she let it scream, let … Continue reading
