Christina Anne Hawthorne
Christina Anne Hawthorne
Alive and well in the Rocky Mountains. I'm a fantasy writer who also dabbles in poetry, short stories, and map making. My Ontyre tales are an alternative fantasy experience, the stories rich in mystery, adventure, and romance. Alternative fantasy? Not quite steampunk. Not quite gothic. In truth, the real magic is in those who discover what's within.

Editing a Series: Using Last Books to Edit the First
There are serious advantages to drafting an entire series before editing (if possible), not the least of which is, quite frankly, time. Time for the writer to gain skills. Time for the world to evolve. Time for characters to grow. … Continue reading
Managing a Series in Scrivener
As anyone who’s read my blog likely knows, I’m writing a fantasy series. Okay, actually, kinda sorta, three series (Kovenlore Chronicles, Pannulus Mysteries, and Thornwillow Tales), but I’m focusing on one right now or nothing will ever be published. That … Continue reading
My Battered Middle Novel
I’m almost to the midpoint of my full series edit where my primary focus is on continuity. The midpoint of the series means the middle book (Book4). My poor, overburdened middle book. All indications, though, point to it being up … Continue reading
Post #NaNoWriMo, Pre Finishing
Closer. Ever closer. That’s where I am in the last book of the Carrdia series. There’s a good chance I’ll reach the end by the time I post again. So, mid month, which was my hope. You know, so I … Continue reading
My Two-Novel Autumn Plan
The time is here, the time is now. That’s where my thinking is these days while I try to not let the moment become too big. I’m about to write two novels back to back, Riparia’s Bk4 (Aramon Daughters) and … Continue reading
The Moment When I Saved a Novel
I write otherworld fantasy with spells and potions and this month I’m beginning to wonder if I’m under a spell. A good spell. One where the fragmented pieces of my writing begin to come together. Oh how unexpected! Oh how … Continue reading
Finishing a Series
My inclination is to always follow inspiration. My philosophy when it comes to abiding that belief is to always weigh whether my inspiration will serve my creative purpose in the long term. That doesn’t mean I can’t lie to myself, … Continue reading

The Major Shift Point
Ah, middles. No, not mine. I really don’t want to talk about my waistline. I’m talking story middles. You know, that place where, if you aren’t careful, the story becomes a wasteland. After all, from the 1st Plot Point to … Continue reading
Structure Within Structure
Structure within structure. Simple. So then, why is it that sometimes I have to have an out-of-body experience and slap myself to remember what I already know? It began a couple of years ago when faced with developing Riparia’s Bk4. … Continue reading
