Christina Anne Hawthorne
Christina Anne Hawthorne
Alive and well in the Rocky Mountains. I'm a fantasy writer who also dabbles in poetry, short stories, and map making. My Ontyre tales are an alternative fantasy experience, the stories rich in mystery, adventure, and romance. Alternative fantasy? Not quite steampunk. Not quite gothic. In truth, the real magic is in those who discover what's within.

Her Best Friend
She had a best friend once, someone she should have loved, for they’d shared hopes and dreams and everything in-between. She had a best friend slip away, the dear friend she’d held, whose tears she’d caught, whose hope became naught. … Continue reading
Signposts
Looking back, she could see the truth, see where she began to come undone, spending too much time wondering why others walked a road with preset signposts when her road had none. No signposts and no destination, she came to … Continue reading

Knowing Where to Look
Years became decades, empty steps on empty roads searching for her lost self, tear-filled breakdowns on a loop turning backwards, checking unwelcoming doors that refused to help. Doors became barriers, each voice on the other side new hatreds to endure, … Continue reading
Internal Progression
Run. To run. Running. Oppression crushing, a step by step progression seeking sanctuary. Lifeless wanderer looking for life, her life, what it’d be to live without lies. Search. To search. Searching. Cradling self-awareness, carved staircase curling around truth denied. Each … Continue reading

Effervescence
She dared to open the light, truth and effervescence mixing within, propelling her to an enlightened place, arms out wide in a meadow of knowing learning about self-discovery. She was outside herself, yet deep inside. She twirled, self-acceptance awaiting the … Continue reading

The Self-Made Prison
Looking back across the intervening years, she saw the prison she’d built for protection, each stone her own. Walls shielded her heart, her secret, the castle’s strength keeping life at bay, no one more tormented within than she. She tortured … Continue reading

Invisible
A marble bench, the living passing by, “In Memory,” the bench declared to those approaching from behind. Looking ahead, couples merged, that life, was for her the life that never was, society rendering her unheard. The hollowness bestowed, she’d filled … Continue reading

Becoming
If not now, when? In the springtime of her mind, becoming who? Choosing, dream sleep stirring waking the way. A hand closing doubt. Sensation racing across an ebony sky, touching alabaster. A scream falling silent, tranquility’s fluttering wings. Emergence, wearing … Continue reading

The Horizon Behind Her Eyes
The horizon behind her eyes, her vision there, her true self inside waving in the distance. Visible. Almost in reach. Clarity was calm. Distractions passed through. Knowing the truth, what she must do. Certainty urged mind climbing to thrive. She … Continue reading

Caught Between
Push and pull, caught in the middle, growing up too fast and not growing up at all. She wanted to hide, to cry in silence. She wanted to scream, let them know why. It made no sense wanting to die, … Continue reading
