The Ice Between

A rose,
its beauty might thaw her heart,
but it was frozen too,
trapped beneath the ice,
trash another heart had discarded.

Crouching,
she set her bare hand to the ice,
the rose so close.
Could it feel the warmth she shared?
Probably not.

So cold,
water falling as crystals in the air,
like the trapped rose,
like the frozen drops
landing on the back of her hand.

About Christina Anne Hawthorne

Alive and well in the Rocky Mountains. I'm a fantasy writer who also dabbles in poetry, short stories, and map making. My Ontyre tales are an alternative fantasy experience, the stories rich in mystery, adventure, and romance. Alternative fantasy? Not quite steampunk. Not quite gothic. In truth, the real magic is in those who discover what's within.
