In Her Silence

They wanted her obedient,
silent,
never achieving.
Accomplishing was a distraction
in their busy lives.
Better she hide away,
say nothing,
her life theirs
when her services were needed.

She endured their demands,
disinterest,
neglect.
She imagined dreams to achieve,
a life that was her own.
What she knew,
what they ignored,
was the clever girl hiding within
was preparing to thrive.

About Christina Anne Hawthorne

Alive and well in the Rocky Mountains. I'm a fantasy writer who also dabbles in poetry, short stories, and map making. My Ontyre tales are an alternative fantasy experience, the stories rich in mystery, adventure, and romance. Alternative fantasy? Not quite steampunk. Not quite gothic. In truth, the real magic is in those who discover what's within.
