Christina Anne Hawthorne
Christina Anne Hawthorne
Alive and well in the Rocky Mountains. I'm a fantasy writer who also dabbles in poetry, short stories, and map making. My Ontyre tales are an alternative fantasy experience, the stories rich in mystery, adventure, and romance. Alternative fantasy? Not quite steampunk. Not quite gothic. In truth, the real magic is in those who discover what's within.

Conjured of Dreams
It wasn’t what it seemed, that place she conjured in her dreams, real in the mind, existing out of time, a place she could touch, if she allowed herself to make it real. More than imagination, a need inside she … Continue reading

2022? Refusing to Surrender Resolve
The year, 2022, had its challenges, but I still managed to accomplish the goals I set in January. My biggest challenge awaits in 2023, but that’s for next week. This week is a review, and just a little boastful. Some … Continue reading
Snow Vow
Verglas cheeks, knees in snow, veil coated eyes blinding the skies, a growl inside, tearing life’s fabric, or was it her dreams refusing to cry? Frozen fists, conifer sentinels unseen, vowed intent excising lingering lies, seething inside, a howl brewing, … Continue reading

Santa Claws
Oh, Santa Claws, eating cookies and nip with glee while slurping your milk and leaving hairballs beneath the tree. Oh, Santa Claws, placing a loving purr in every gift, then shredding the paper and giving each ornament a special lift. … Continue reading

Determined Relaxation
DO and there’s satisfaction in doing, but also risk of burnout. DON’T DO and there’s rest, but also the risk of stagnation and guilt. On any given day we alternate between doing and not doing, doing meaning following our writing … Continue reading
Not Standing Still
Fretting, worrying, she’d known it all, tears of helplessness to make her feel small. When her awakening came it was finding that trying quieted the fearfulness, ended the crying. Not trying to try, but trying to do, for in the … Continue reading

A Moment Forever

Defeating the Self-Editing Monster
The self-editing monster is a fearsome, gruesome beast that inspires gut-churning apprehension in all who stand in its way. Hours become years as you wither away with only a dusty dictionary as a companion. Cue the candelabra, drafty room, and … Continue reading
Dear Fingers
Her fingers, she wondered, what story were they typing? It certainly wasn’t the one her head was thinking. What was up with pesky ring fingers dancing for joy on keys, creating character strings and doing so with glee? Why oh … Continue reading

Magnetic
Magnetism, such a silly word, all that pushing and pulling when the living aren’t metal. Romance, it was anything but magnetic, till the force pulling her ahead said she was the silly one. Inside, attraction was a glittering force, anticipating … Continue reading
