Christina Anne Hawthorne
Christina Anne Hawthorne
Alive and well in the Rocky Mountains. I'm a fantasy writer who also dabbles in poetry, short stories, and map making. My Ontyre tales are an alternative fantasy experience, the stories rich in mystery, adventure, and romance. Alternative fantasy? Not quite steampunk. Not quite gothic. In truth, the real magic is in those who discover what's within.

Naming Stuff: Glossary
I’m continuing my worldbuilding series covering my approaches to naming elements of my fantasy world. This, the second post, addresses special terms from my Ontyre glossary. I’m trying to minimize explaining magic and instead explain my approach to naming. Thus … Continue reading
Elation
The depth she’d found inside made her all the more alive. Elation. It burst forth from every pore, promising there was more, for no matter what they said outside she’d not die before her time. She smiled and skip past … Continue reading

Searching for Wonder
It was there never seen, existing on the whisper of a thought, nonsensical to those lacking vision, her vision, her mind’s eye touching the impossible, allowing her inside. Magic was the irrational possible, imagination’s creation expanding, a thriving otherworld she … Continue reading
Naming Stuff: Characters
If you’re a writer, naming stuff is important, and all the more so if you write in a genre outside our real world. Worldbuilding as extensively as I do, I could probably devote an entire naming post to the various … Continue reading
At Home with the Ghouls
Her house was haunted bliss after she opened the doors and invited the apparitions in. She treasured burials at night when faces disappeared only to return as ghostly white. Oh how she loved Puppy howling at the moon and Kitty … Continue reading

Within the Present Self
She’d spent years searching for answers, seeking an invisible guide, her outstretched hand waiting. That hand remained empty until she clasped it with the other, discovering then that self-reliance existed between those hands. Her open eyes found inner strength, saw … Continue reading

Managing a Series in Scrivener
As anyone who’s read my blog likely knows, I’m writing a fantasy series. Okay, actually, kinda sorta, three series (Kovenlore Chronicles, Pannulus Mysteries, and Thornwillow Tales), but I’m focusing on one right now or nothing will ever be published. That … Continue reading
One by One
Her journey, taken alone, the haters screaming, others deserting, condemning, threatening, those promising support fading away, each one blinking out one by one. Maybe, just maybe, the fear was a blessing in fisted disguise, a caution, warning, inspiration to escape … Continue reading

Her Unseen Steps
Emerging from abusive nothingness, fathoming her unfathomable return, she longed for a path, a plan, and possibilities too fantastic to discern. She grasped truth with understanding, carried her lessons learned, found forgiveness, discovered tenderness, and embraced diversity’s worth. Her passage … Continue reading

This Writer’s Essential Flexibility
My writing process mimics crossing a stream. In late summer I hop from rock to rock. In spring I find a bridge. In winter I manage the ice. Same stream. Same goal. Meanwhile, my process depends on the flow and … Continue reading
