Christina Anne Hawthorne
Christina Anne Hawthorne
Alive and well in the Rocky Mountains. I'm a fantasy writer who also dabbles in poetry, short stories, and map making. My Ontyre tales are an alternative fantasy experience, the stories rich in mystery, adventure, and romance. Alternative fantasy? Not quite steampunk. Not quite gothic. In truth, the real magic is in those who discover what's within.

Remembering Balance
Teetering at the maelstrom’s center, balanced at the edge in a tormenting wind, she set her heels down, her toes finding nothing to hold onto. She raised her hands in defiance, to proclaim herself whole. She wouldn’t give in, wouldn’t … Continue reading

Sketching a Functional City Map for Orientation and Reference
The city map. I can’t believe I’ve never focused on this topic before because the city map, or any one for a small area, is probably the most useful. World maps are glorious and epic, but for the writer, theres’ … Continue reading

If Ever
Her gasp, her side, fingertips tracing, tingling her skin, stimulating, electrifying, satisfying the longing she’d thought smothered, extinguished, a moment’s touch lasting forever and ever. Heartbeat, heartfelt, a fingertip brushing, removing tears of joy where once was emptiness, hollowness, knowing … Continue reading

Thrill’s Kills
Empty car at tunnel’s end, tarnished chrome beneath streetlight’s night, discarded weapon, a body prone, a ruby bruise upon a tortured cheek that was tortured no more, crimson clues painting noir lights. A waiting car waiting still, a radio’s song … Continue reading

In Search of My Targeted Editing Plan
My editing plan, to this point, has been haphazard beyond the initial edit or two. That means I need a plan, but I don’t want a rigid system. When I scrapped a system for an organized, but flexible and evolving, … Continue reading
After Dream
A spell she knew well lingered as spring perfume in the aftermath of insight. It wafted in the glade of self, her secluded place, her after-dream, where her truth wasn’t what it seemed. Walking in the stream’s course was a … Continue reading

The Places Only She Could See
In reality, there was what shouldn’t be, there behind her vision, forming a new existence, haunting the unguarded moments. In another place before the present, she’d tried to flee, to unsee the places only she could see in the fantastical … Continue reading

Don’t be Held Hostage, Be Aware
Actually, the full line is, “Don’t be held hostage by your past.” At the moment, I’m struggling, but I also know I’ll prevail because I’m aware and have a plan. That knowledge is my advantage over what spring causes. Yes, … Continue reading
Only Love
Chance, happenstance, accidental, but maybe fate. His voice, oh, his voice, indelible in her heart even decades later. Strong, gentle. Kind and insightful. Her, all wrong, too slow to recognize love, one love, the only love, and then he was … Continue reading

Rain Spell
Hands clapping in the heavens, drops a rhythm on the leaves, the pavement, the rooftop, her dancing at the center of life’s hurricane where horns sounded, the world tearing in two. The shrinking sky was a vista bleeding change, fists … Continue reading
