Knowing Where to Look

Years became decades,
empty steps on empty roads
searching for her lost self,
tear-filled breakdowns
on a loop turning backwards,
checking unwelcoming doors
that refused to help.

Doors became barriers,
each voice on the other side
new hatreds to endure,
never was her true self waiting
in any distant place,
but instead leading her
to her true self's reflecting threshold.

About Christina Anne Hawthorne

Alive and well in the Rocky Mountains. I'm a fantasy writer who also dabbles in poetry, short stories, and map making. My Ontyre tales are an alternative fantasy experience, the stories rich in mystery, adventure, and romance. Alternative fantasy? Not quite steampunk. Not quite gothic. In truth, the real magic is in those who discover what's within.
