Christina Anne Hawthorne
Christina Anne Hawthorne
Alive and well in the Rocky Mountains. I'm a fantasy writer who also dabbles in poetry, short stories, and map making. My Ontyre tales are an alternative fantasy experience, the stories rich in mystery, adventure, and romance. Alternative fantasy? Not quite steampunk. Not quite gothic. In truth, the real magic is in those who discover what's within.

Just Beyond
Just beyond the locked door, a knock so soft, so gentle, she set her ear to the side trapped in silence, the fading song beyond the barrier sharing whispers and promises, teasing rapture, urging her to just beyond pleasure. A … Continue reading

Accomplishment Shuts Down Self-Doubt
Outside, it’s frigid, but inside I’m snuggly warm basking in satisfaction, gratification, and anticipation. Combined, they’re increased confidence, which fuels my enthusiasm. The basic ingredients for all this are trying, doing, and accomplishing. Last week, I used the new series’ … Continue reading

On the Eve of the Night
On the eve of the night, invading the forest in her gown, a piano’s echo calling, a single light beckoning, the dream that had become reality telling her she’d taken her longing too far. Candelabra flames wreathing immortal, she passed … Continue reading

These Islands We Flee
Yesterday before tomorrow, the end, the beginning, true lies to wash the confusion inside, a symphony of self-grinding wheels, enough to make each thought scream in misfiring agony. Death before living, the reality, the questions, memories imprinted while still befalling, … Continue reading

Keeping a Series Dynamic
The number of pitfalls when writing a novel become compounded when they’re a part of a series. It’s an ever-present danger while I work on The Kovenlore Chronicles, reinforced each time I read (or put down) a series. The adage … Continue reading
Sideways
Dreaming sideways, casting aside residual sorrow to tumble evermore into a valley burning. Loss, it cried, liquid silver caressing her cheeks while a gasping heart choked her throat. Standing sideways, swaying in mourning sunrise pain where hushed breaths came earlier … Continue reading

Incantation Inquisition
Magisterial babble lingered in a void it couldn’t fill, horizontal candles turning to melt futility. Whispered conjuring, the tribunal’s forbidden feminine fearing what she could do with her own mind. Nevermore tragic hands, spread fate between splayed fingers, the course … Continue reading

My Battered Middle Novel
I’m almost to the midpoint of my full series edit where my primary focus is on continuity. The midpoint of the series means the middle book (Book4). My poor, overburdened middle book. All indications, though, point to it being up … Continue reading
Internal Progression
Run. To run. Running. Oppression crushing, a step by step progression seeking sanctuary. Lifeless wanderer looking for life, her life, what it’d be to live without lies. Search. To search. Searching. Cradling self-awareness, carved staircase curling around truth denied. Each … Continue reading

Presence in Another Room
Smoking shadows wafting out of the past lingered on the other side of the present conjuring, dancing in disjointed syncopation. Glimpsed askance, a presence in another room, a deadly trigger with a key. Whispered warnings perceiving other outcomes recognized the … Continue reading
