Christina Anne Hawthorne
Christina Anne Hawthorne
Alive and well in the Rocky Mountains. I'm a fantasy writer who also dabbles in poetry, short stories, and map making. My Ontyre tales are an alternative fantasy experience, the stories rich in mystery, adventure, and romance. Alternative fantasy? Not quite steampunk. Not quite gothic. In truth, the real magic is in those who discover what's within.

Having the Patience to Build Confidence
My focus this year is on readying books for publication, but it’s also about continuing to self-improve and silence my often cruel inner critic so as to diminish my self-doubt. I made a huge step forward recently when I took … Continue reading
Feline Devine
There were times when she attempted to define the creature at her feet or purring upon her spine. Into the feline divine she delved, a place of purring cat serenity sharing unexpected space with feline eccentricity. How to understand that … Continue reading

Freedom’s Air
Years in a cage dreaming of freedom, dreaming of being, wondering if when opportunity came if she’d be brave enough to thrive. The day arrived and freedom’s air invaded. At the threshold, she realized the one holding her back was … Continue reading

Worldbuilding: Where My Interests Go To Thrive
So often it seems the blog posts I draft lead one to the next in a logical sequence. Kind of sounds like a book. This week is no exception. Last week I related my struggles and varied interests in school … Continue reading
Always and Always
Ever always wrapped in midnight, breathless shadows in a dying kiss. Eternal devotion ever after, a broken craving she brushed from her lips, one she shared with the embers in her hand. She echoed tears on piano keys, starless ebony … Continue reading

The Wait
In school, she painted smiles. At home, at night, she waited for floorboards to creak outside her door, for her door to open. Outside, children waited for birthdays, the Easter Bunny, and Santa on his sled. Inside, she waited for … Continue reading

Alternative Learning, Alternative Doing
As I touched on last week, I’ve entered a new stage in my writing where learning more about editing and self-publishing are more the focus. For me, taking any step is a unique experience because I learn in a different … Continue reading
Effervescence
She dared to open the light, truth and effervescence mixing within, propelling her to an enlightened place, arms out wide in a meadow of knowing learning about self-discovery. She was outside herself, yet deep inside. She twirled, self-acceptance awaiting the … Continue reading

The Moon and Stars
She breathed the remains of a night cloaked in creativity, the tea’s steam transforming shadows where the moon’s silver soothed. She sipped. The keyboard whispered. The cat purred. Beyond the pane, the stars reassured. Oh how the enchanted hours embraced … Continue reading
