The Self-Made Prison

Looking back
across the intervening years,
she saw the prison she'd built for protection,
each stone her own.

Walls shielded her heart,
her secret,
the castle's strength keeping life at bay,
no one more tormented within than she.

She tortured her tormenter of self-told lies
until,
she realized the way out
was the way to the true self within.

About Christina Anne Hawthorne

Alive and well in the Rocky Mountains. I'm a fantasy writer who also dabbles in poetry, short stories, and map making. My Ontyre tales are an alternative fantasy experience, the stories rich in mystery, adventure, and romance. Alternative fantasy? Not quite steampunk. Not quite gothic. In truth, the real magic is in those who discover what's within.
