Christina Anne Hawthorne
Christina Anne Hawthorne
Alive and well in the Rocky Mountains. I'm a fantasy writer who also dabbles in poetry, short stories, and map making. My Ontyre tales are an alternative fantasy experience, the stories rich in mystery, adventure, and romance. Alternative fantasy? Not quite steampunk. Not quite gothic. In truth, the real magic is in those who discover what's within.

When It Doesn’t Work—Until It Does
From the moment I published last week’s post I knew there was unfinished business at hand. That post, about finally unearthing a story for Following the Essence Stone, continues to fall into place. The narrative outline is done and I’m … Continue reading
Self-Deception
So many years, so many decades, each filled with truths, lies, and deceptions. The self-deception of long ago burned deepest, a memory vivid, him playing his guitar before he was gone. She was someone else then, living a different life, … Continue reading

A Place So Vast
Born into herself, a self unaccepting, she built walls for her own protection, but seeing beyond she couldn’t do, her safe place a lonely place until she became new. The new was the old, without self-infliction, the life within no … Continue reading

The Moment When I Saved a Novel
I write otherworld fantasy with spells and potions and this month I’m beginning to wonder if I’m under a spell. A good spell. One where the fragmented pieces of my writing begin to come together. Oh how unexpected! Oh how … Continue reading
Contemplating
Who was she, this gentle person, this feminine introvert, so introspective? Of what use was she, she who coveted time, time for contemplation over mass consumption? How was one to understand someone who roared inside, soared in her mind, and … Continue reading

Quieting Anxiety
Her lungs were a bellows with no air. Pacing, hands darting, thoughts racing, catastrophes forming. Unable to settle, yet wanting to hide. Instead, she sought, her quiet place. Stillness. Breathing. In. Out. If chaos screamed, she let it scream, let … Continue reading

Finishing a Series
My inclination is to always follow inspiration. My philosophy when it comes to abiding that belief is to always weigh whether my inspiration will serve my creative purpose in the long term. That doesn’t mean I can’t lie to myself, … Continue reading

The Promise
Another slumber, disquieting and a little somber, no details lingering, yet, her heart lifted anyway, for stirring deep within was the promise, the one made so very long ago, the purpose she couldn’t let go, the purpose she couldn’t forget, … Continue reading

Stepping Stones to Chaos
Another moment of silence following more senselessness to abhor, etching more stones in grieving, hearing more answers we’ll ignore. Outrage over trivialities, apathy when victims die, walking the stepping stones to chaos while too few wonder why. There’s no end … Continue reading

Writing What’s Most Important
Instead of drafting this post on Tuesday, I drafted it on Saturday. I needed the variety of tasks that day while riding out the aftermath of my second dose of vaccine. I received it late Friday morning and only suffered … Continue reading
