How She Survives

She knew,
in that moment after catastrophe,
she knew.

She knew her greatest enemy
would soon arrive,
the one she saw each day
in the mirror.

The one choice,
the only choice,
was to do what she must
to survive.

Surviving meant
shutting down,
it meant
setting the crisis aside,
until she was strong enough
to overcome.

About Christina Anne Hawthorne

Alive and well in the Rocky Mountains. I'm a fantasy writer who also dabbles in poetry, short stories, and map making. My Ontyre tales are an alternative fantasy experience, the stories rich in mystery, adventure, and romance. Alternative fantasy? Not quite steampunk. Not quite gothic. In truth, the real magic is in those who discover what's within.
