We’re undercover operatives
in life’s hide and seek
clinging to the truth of who we are,
but fearing should we speak.

Having to justify our existence
should we stray from the line,
fearful that what other operatives see
is our truth inside.

We spend a lifetime drowning,
our heads fleeing the sun,
knowing that hiding our truth
will mean the lie has won.

About Christina Anne Hawthorne

Alive and well in the Rocky Mountains. I'm a fantasy writer who also dabbles in poetry, short stories, and map making. My Ontyre tales are an alternative fantasy experience, the stories rich in mystery, adventure, and romance. Alternative fantasy? Not quite steampunk. Not quite gothic. In truth, the real magic is in those who discover what's within.
