The One in the Looking Glass

Looking glass,
someone like her
looking back,
holding no judgement,
only astonishment.

There,
in the image,
an innocent wound
upon her skin.

How strange to know
it wasn’t innocent
at all.

Intellectually,
she knew the truth,
knew it was more
than a curiosity.

Knew a different C-word
applied.

The woman,
the one in the looking glass,
the one looking back,
she was crying too.

*Skin cancer doesn’t always look like what you think. If you’re susceptible, if it runs in the family, perform a self exam, have someone help, undergo annual checks. It could save your life. Like it saved mine. Again.

About Christina Anne Hawthorne

Alive and well in the Rocky Mountains. I'm a fantasy writer who also dabbles in poetry, short stories, and map making. My Ontyre tales are an alternative fantasy experience, the stories rich in mystery, adventure, and romance. Alternative fantasy? Not quite steampunk. Not quite gothic. In truth, the real magic is in those who discover what's within.
