That Was Close

It was close,
far too close,
but instead they took our neighbors.
You know, the “others” we hardly knew.
At least they took them and not us too.

It was close again,
and then again and again,
until they came for us in the middle of the night.
We cried out, but there was no one to hear our call.
While we were safe—they’d taken them all.

About Christina Anne Hawthorne

Alive and well in the Rocky Mountains. I'm a fantasy writer who also dabbles in poetry, short stories, and map making. My Ontyre tales are an alternative fantasy experience, the stories rich in mystery, adventure, and romance. Alternative fantasy? Not quite steampunk. Not quite gothic. In truth, the real magic is in those who discover what's within.
