Sickened

Prejudice based on skin? That’s absurd.
—It’s about color—
Color is a spectrum, not black and white.
—It’s about race—
There’s one race, the human race.
—It’s about superiority—
Superiority becomes inferiority when declared.
—You just don’t understand—
Oh, I understand, and it makes me sick.
I understand hatred plied by the insecure,
by the ignorant,
by those taught to hate my fellow human beings.
I understand generations forced to fear.
I understand children who never come home.
I understand constitutional rights denied.

About Christina Anne Hawthorne

Alive and well in the Rocky Mountains. I'm a fantasy writer who also dabbles in poetry, short stories, and map making. My Ontyre tales are an alternative fantasy experience, the stories rich in mystery, adventure, and romance. Alternative fantasy? Not quite steampunk. Not quite gothic. In truth, the real magic is in those who discover what's within.
